SGCarPrice terms of use and disclaimer

← Back to SGCarPrice Terms for all my projects

Hi, I'm Howie L. I come from operations, not engineering. I build these projects in my spare time to learn, try out new tools and grow my skills, and I share them openly in case they're useful to someone else. Because they're personal experiments, they come with limits, and this page sets those out as clearly as I can.

These terms and this disclaimer apply to SGCarPrice, at sgcarprice.com, sgcarprice.howiedoit.dev or any other address it's served from. On this page, "I", "me" and "my" mean Howie L., the individual who builds and runs SGCarPrice and howiedoit.dev, and "my projects" means SGCarPrice and everything else I build and share. They're the same terms that cover all my projects, with a few notes specific to SGCarPrice.

In short

  • SGCarPrice is a personal project by me, Howie L. I build it in my own time and in my own capacity, not for any employer or organisation.
  • Every figure, score and comparison is a rough estimate based on my own interpretation of public rules and data. It is not financial, legal or any other professional advice.
  • It may be wrong, out of date, incomplete, insecure or offline at any time. It's shared as is, with no promises.
  • Please don't rely on it to decide whether to buy, sell, borrow or insure. Check the real numbers with the seller, LTA, your bank or a qualified professional. Your decisions are your own.
  • I'm not responsible for any loss, financial or otherwise, that comes from using my projects or relying on them.
  • I'll update these terms from time to time as my projects grow. If you keep using my projects after an update, the updated terms apply.
  • If any of this doesn't sit right with you, you're welcome not to use my projects. That's completely fine.

The rest of this page says the same thing in full. If anything in this summary seems to differ from the full text below, the full text applies.

About SGCarPrice

SGCarPrice is an independent calculator that estimates what a car costs to own in Singapore, from your inputs and from public information about COE, ARF, PARF, road tax and loans.

It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), OneMotoring, sgCarMart, or any motor dealer, distributor, bank, insurer or finance provider. Public data, such as LTA's tax tables and COE results from data.gov.sg, belongs to its owners and is used under their terms.

Every figure, score and comparison is an estimate based on my own interpretation of the rules, and on assumptions that may not match your situation. Sample cars and listings are illustrations, not quotes or recommendations. Car listings and figures submitted by other people are theirs, not mine, and even after review I can't check that they are correct.

Before you buy, sell, borrow against or insure a car, check the real numbers with the seller, LTA, your bank or insurer, or a qualified professional.

Personal projects

My projects are personal projects. I build and run them myself, in my own time and in my own personal capacity, mainly to learn and to grow my skills.

They are not connected to, endorsed by or done on behalf of any employer, client or organisation I work with or have worked with. The views in them are my own.

My own interpretation

Everything I write and build reflects my own understanding and interpretation of the rules, data and tools involved, at the time I wrote or built it. I'm still learning, so my reading may differ from how others, including the relevant authorities, read the same thing, and it may simply be wrong.

When I build or write any of this, I'm not acting as a financial adviser, broker, lawyer, accountant or any other kind of professional or licensed adviser. Please make your own interpretation and judgement.

Not advice

Everything in my projects is general information about what I've built and learnt. It is not financial, investment, trading, tax, legal, insurance or any other professional advice. It is not a recommendation or an offer to buy, sell or hold anything, and it doesn't take your own situation, goals or needs into account.

Using my projects, or getting in touch with me, doesn't make me your adviser or create any professional relationship between us.

Please don't rely on it

Please don't rely on anything in my projects to make a decision, especially one involving money. For anything important, check with the original source, the relevant authority or a qualified professional who knows your situation.

If you choose to act on something you read, saw or calculated in my projects, that decision and whatever comes of it are yours.

Accuracy

I do my best to get things right, but my projects may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and may stay that way for a while. Rules and prices change. Data from other sources, such as government data, market data providers or listings, can be delayed, missing or incorrect. A lot of the work is done with AI tools, and they make mistakes too.

Figures, examples, scores, signals and screenshots show things as they were at one point in time and are for illustration only.

Security and reliability

My projects are not enterprise-grade software and haven't been through a professional security review or audit. I can't promise that they're secure, that anything you enter or save will be kept safe or kept at all, or that they'll be available or work properly at any given time.

Please don't reuse a password from anywhere else in my apps, and please don't enter anything sensitive, such as your NRIC number, bank or card details, or anything you couldn't afford to lose or have seen by others.

Following my build steps

If you follow steps, code or setups from my posts or code repositories, please do so at your own risk. They may not work for you, they may cost money, and they may break or expose things on your devices or accounts.

Check the costs and terms of any service before you sign up, keep your passwords and keys private, and back up anything important first.

Other sites, products and ads

Links to other sites and services, and any ads, sponsored links or affiliate links, are there for convenience. I don't control those sites, and I'm not responsible for their content, their products or how they handle your information. Mentioning or linking to something isn't an endorsement.

Product and company names mentioned in my projects, such as TradingView, Binance, LTA, Vercel, Supabase, Cloudflare, Google, OpenAI and Anthropic, belong to their owners. Mentioning them doesn't mean they endorse or are connected with my projects.

Terms of use

Agreeing to these terms

By using any of my projects, you agree to these terms and the disclaimer above. If you'd rather not, please don't use them. I completely understand.

If you're under 18, please only use my projects with a parent's or guardian's permission.

Use at your own risk

You use my projects at your own risk and with your own judgement. You're responsible for how you use them, for checking anything important, and for the decisions you make.

No promises

I share my projects as they are, and only for as long as they happen to be available (what lawyers call "as is" and "as available"). As far as the law allows, I don't promise anything about them, whether I've said it or someone might assume it. That includes any promise that they're accurate, complete, up to date, secure, reliable, available, free of bugs or viruses, or right for whatever you want to use them for.

Limits on my responsibility

I share my projects for free and in good faith, as a way of learning. So, as far as the law allows, I'm not legally responsible to you or anyone else for any loss or damage that comes from using my projects, relying on them or not being able to use them, or from anything I've written. That includes money lost on purchases, investments or trades, lost profits, savings or opportunities, lost or damaged data, harm to your devices, and knock-on losses (what lawyers call indirect or consequential loss). It applies whatever the claim is based on, including an agreement, carelessness (what lawyers call negligence) or a breach of any law, and even if I was warned the loss could happen.

If a court still decides I'm responsible despite the paragraph above, the most I'd have to pay you, for all your claims together, is S$50, or what you've paid me for that project in the 12 months before, if that's more. This isn't an amount anyone is owed. It's only a limit, and it only matters if a court decides the paragraph above doesn't apply.

Some kinds of responsibility can't be excluded by law, whatever the terms say. Nothing here tries to exclude those, and everything else on this page still applies.

Claims caused by your use

If you misuse my projects, break these terms or the law, or submit something you shouldn't, and someone makes a claim against me because of it, you agree to cover the losses and reasonable costs, including legal costs, that this causes me.

Using my projects properly

You're welcome to use my projects for your own personal purposes.

Please don't try to break, overload or get unauthorised access to them, scrape or copy their data in bulk, use them to harm or mislead anyone, or use them for anything unlawful.

Accounts

Some of my apps let you create an account. Please keep your password safe. You're responsible for your account and for what's done with it.

I'll try to keep things running smoothly, but I may need to suspend, limit or delete an account, or anything saved in it, at any time and sometimes without notice. I can't promise to keep backups.

Things you send or submit

When you send me a message or submit something to my projects, such as a car listing, a report or a comment, you confirm that you're allowed to share it, that it's lawful and that it's accurate as far as you know.

You keep ownership of it, and you give me permission to use, store, copy, edit, display and publish it in my projects, free of charge, anywhere and with no time limit. I may remove anything at any time.

Data, cookies and ads

To run my projects I use third-party services for things like hosting, sign-in and databases, contact forms, analytics and ads. They may receive and process what you enter, your messages, and information about your visit and your device, and some of them use cookies or similar technologies. By using my projects, you agree to this.

Some of my projects may show ads, for example from Google. Google and its partners may use cookies to show you ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalised ads in your Google ad settings.

What I use may change over time, including adding or changing analytics, cookies, ads, sponsorships, affiliate links or paid features. If you'd like your account or messages deleted, you can ask me through the contact page.

Changes to my projects

My projects are free to use for now. They're a work in progress, so I may change, pause, limit, start charging for or close any of them at any time, sometimes without notice.

My content

The words, screenshots, designs and code in my projects are mine unless I say otherwise, or a licence in the code repository says otherwise. You're welcome to quote or share them with a link back. Please don't republish whole posts, or copy an app and present it as your own.

Changes to these terms

As my projects grow and I learn more, I'll update these terms and this disclaimer from time to time. I can make these updates whenever I need to, and they don't need anyone's separate agreement.

An update applies from the time it's posted here, and the date at the top shows the latest one. I'll usually also show a short note in my apps when something has changed, but please check this page from time to time rather than relying on that. If you keep using my projects after an update, the updated terms apply to you.

If an update doesn't sit right with you, you're always free to stop using my projects.

The rest of the small print

These terms, together with each app's own page here, are the full agreement between you and me about my projects.

If a court decides that any part of these terms doesn't hold, the rest still applies, and that part still applies as far as the law allows. If I don't act on something in these terms straight away, I can still act on it later.

Governing law

These terms and this disclaimer follow Singapore law, and any dispute about them can only be heard in the courts of Singapore.

If you spot something wrong or have a concern, the contact page goes straight to my inbox.
